Queremos compartir con ustedes la experiencia de dos colaboradoras de este espacio, Carol e Isabel, quienes tuvieron el privilegio de compartir un ensayo con Inti Illimani, preparando las presentaciones que en estos momentos se desarrollan en Italia y Estados Unidos.
En este espacio, hemos dado a conocer las vidas y experiencias de los músicos, algunas de las influencias que los han motivado en su proceso creador, cómo la experiencia socio-política de nuestro país ha sido clave para entender esa creación, y cómo también existe la necesaria y saludable capacidad de reinventarse sin perder la esencia. Desafío complejo, pero esperanzador.
En el mundo del arte, lo importante es dar paso a los sentidos, a percibir los mensajes, las texturas, los sonidos, letras, acordes, colores. Si a eso sumamos una visión del hombre y del mundo, claramente nos encontramos con una experiencia global, integral, dispuesta para que también seamos partícipes de ella.
Carol e Isabel fueron espectadoras y también creadoras, como lo somos nosotros cuando descubrimos algo nuevo en la propuesta de Inti Illimani. Todos los días hay un mensaje nuevo, una experiencia distinta, diferente. Por ello, compartimos con ustedes este artículo que da cuenta de eso, y la invitación a imaginar la propuesta de Inti Illimani como algo que no es absoluto, pero que no renuncia a sus principios. Ahí yace su integridad, su transparencia y su honestidad.

Cultivar los dones que se nos han obsequiado no es ejercicio fácil, sin duda, se requiere de una gran cuota de convicción, de ganas, hasta de sacrificio. Generalmente el cultivo lleva a la cosecha y aún con eso el proceso no ha terminado, y es esto último lo que diferencia a buenos de mejores y a mejores de imprescindibles.
Para muchos la música de Inti-Illimani es imprescindible y es probable que la raíz de este sentimiento tenga que ver con la pureza de las notas, con la abstracción que producen los acordes, con la limpieza del sonido que emana de los instrumentos y claramente estos hechos son producto de un trabajo diario, de una dinámica constante, dónde la superación tiene un significado inmenso.
Tuvimos la suerte de ser testigos de éste trabajo asistimos a un ensayo de nuestros queridos Intis y nos maravillamos con cada detalle. Llegamos alrededor del mediodía a la dirección señalada, sabíamos que el Inti estaba trabajando ahí hace un rato ya, es Gonzalo quién nos recibe y muy gentilmente nos indica el camino, él es quien está a cargo en la oficina, nos lleva hasta ella y nos hace esperar un momento para entrar, ya escuchábamos, desde dónde estábamos, que el trabajo se estaba realizando. Mientras mirábamos y admirábamos los cuadros en la pared, los reconocimientos, todo evocaba historia y justo cuando admiraba una gaviota, Gonzalo nos dice “pueden pasar”. Cómo es costumbre en ellos el ánimo es el mejor y nuestra visita parece no entorpecer en nada el trabajo, mucho menos incomodarlos. Así tomamos tribuna y nos dispusimos a disfrutar. El Inti se preparaba para el concierto con Francesca Gagnon en EEUU de manera que todo fue nuevo para nosotros, fuimos testigo del trabajo intenso desde la matriz de la nota hasta la canción, sentimos innumerables veces el impulso de aplaudir pero nos contuvimos mirando confundidos cuándo Manuel Meriño cumpliendo a total cabalidad su rol de director musical, impulsaba un nuevo comenzar buscando la nota en el punto exacto, ni medio más arriba, ni medio más abajo. Nos sentimos honrados de disfrutar a pleno mediodía de voces incomparables como la de Marcelo y Jorge, que son en efecto música a los oídos. Existe un tremendo equilibrio en el trabajo que cada uno desarrolla y que hace el todo.
Es difícil comprender que la perfección pueda mejorarse, pero se puede. Esto por medio de una gran dosis de humildad que permite caminar sobre la tierra. Así entendemos los ensayos de uno de las bandas que hoy por hoy es, si no la que más presentaciones tiene en el extranjero, una de ellas.
Los ensayos del Inti son rigurosos, son exigentes hay una predisposición en cada uno por dar lo mejor, por entregarse para lograrlo, en un ambiente distendido pero comprometido cada cuál aporta con lo único, con los que los hace un conjunto, perfectamente capaz, sin divismos, de seguir a un líder. Este líder que marca la pauta y guía el camino es el director musical y su rol es fundamental y él lo sabe pero también sabe del valor de sus dirigidos entonces se produce un equilibrio y ese equilibrio se plasma, es una suerte de sello y se hace presente en cada concierto y es fácil ver ese equilibrio, entre ellos, en sus roles. Ahí está el fruto que rinden los ensayos, no es casualidad que al plasmar la imagen de Inti-Illimani se vea perfecta armonía.

We would like to share with you the experience live by Carol and Isabel, two of our closest collaborators, who were privileged to share one of Inti-Illimani’s rehearsal when the were getting ready for their current performance in Italy and USA.
In this website we have shown the life and experiences for the members of the bands, some of the influences that has motivated them during their creative process, the way the social political experience of our country has been a key element to understand such a creation, and also the way they have found the necessary and healthy ability to reinvent oneself without losing essence. It’s a complex but promising challenge.
In the world of Arts, the most important thing is to leave the way clear to senses, to perceive messages, textures, sounds, lyrics, chords, colors and so on. When we add a vision of Man and the World, we clearly find a global and comprehensive experience willing for us to be a part of it.
Carol and Isabel were observers of this and they were also creators, just like us when we find out something new about Inti-Illimani’s proposal. There’s a new message, a different and unique experience every day. This is why we share this article with you, an article talking about that and we invite you to imagine Inti-Illimani’s proposal as something that never ever abandons their principles. Hence their integrity, transparency and honesty.

A Masters’ rehearsal

It’s not an easy exercise culturing the gifts we have been given, since it’s undoubtedly required a big part of conviction, spirit and even sacrifice. Encouragement normally leads to results, but that’s not the end of the process; so this is the difference between the good and the best and between the best and essential.
For a lot of people, Inti-Illimani’s music is essential. This feeling may have its origin in the purity of notes, the abstraction caused by chords, the cleanliness of the sound emanating from the instruments and all of these are clearly the result of daily tasks, a constant dynamics, through which being better and better means a lot.
We were lucky enough to be witnessess of this work, for we attended a rehearsal by our beloved Inti and we were astonished with every little detail. We arrived at the arranged address around noon. We knew Inti was already practising for a while, so Gonzalo opened the door and led us. Gonzalo is in charge of the Office and took us there, when we had to wait while we were already listening the notes and music already being played. While we were watching and admiring pictures, recognitions, prizes on the wall, all of which evoking History, and when I was admiring one Gaviota (a silver seagull which is the trophy for the Viña del Mar’s Festival), Gonzalo said to us: “You can come in”. As always, the guys' mood was the best and our visit didn't seem to restricted the rehearsal at all, and they we're very comfortable with our presence. So we took our seats and prepared to enjoy. Inti was practising for concerts with Francesca Gagnon in the States, so everything was new for us: we were witnesses of the hard work from the mold of the notes to the song itself. Many times we were about to clap but we contained ourselves and looked confused when Manuel Meriño, in his role of Music Director, was driving a fresh start towards the exact point for the note, not more, not less. We were absolutely honored to enjoy the incomparable voices of Marcelo and Jorge in the middle of the day... their voices are like music for our ears. There’s an incredible balance between the roles for everyone of the members and this balances builds the whole thing.
It is hard to understand how perfection is able to be improved… but it is. You are able to do this through a good deal of modestly which allows to walk on the ground. This is how we understand the rehearsals of one of the Chilean bands performing more frequently abroad. Inti-Illimani’s rehearsals are very rigorous, very demanding. There’s a tendency in everyone of the members to give their best, to devote themselves to achieve their goal, in a relaxed but committed atmosphere where everyone contributes with something unique. This makes them a group, a band, a team which is absolutely capable of following a leader without any "prima donna". This leader establishing the guidelines and leading the pathway is the musical director, with an essential role which he is absolutely aware of, but he also knows about the great value of those under his commands, so there’s a balance. And you can see this balance, it's like a hallmark which is always present in every performance, so you can also see this balance between them, between their roles. That’s the fruit of Inti-Illimani’s rehearsals. It's not a coincidence that you can see a perfect harmony when you see Inti-Illimani performing.
